The disposal of sewage sludge on agricultural land as well as the disposal of residues from wastewater treatment, biogenic sludges and wet waste from industrial processes are a burden on the environment and are prohibited throughout the EU.

It has been shown that the thermal utilization of sewage sludge and other problematic sludges makes economic and environmental sense.

Before the sludge is used thermally, it must be dried so that it can be burned without additional energy.

Of the drying systems available on the market such as belt, fluidized bed and thin layer dryers, INTEC favors sewage sludge drying using contact dryers.

The contact dryers consist of counter-rotating screws, with heat transfer oil or steam flowing through and heating the double-walled screw blades and screw shafts.

By connecting these screw modules in series, drying levels of up to 90% can be achieved.
